William Howard Yorke was born in St. John, Brunswick, Canada. A painter primarily of ship and maritime scenes, he was taught by his father William Gay York(e)(1817-c.1886.) He was based in Liverpool having left Canada with his parents circa 1855 and he exhibited at Walker Art Gallery. His middle name is often misspelt as Hord or even Hoard and his last name sometimes has the letter ‘e’.
