A member of the Lake Artists Society (1912-31) Watson was born in Beckermet a village south of Whitehaven in Northumberland. He was by profession an analytical chemist with a strong interest in local archaeology. He was largely self-taught as an artist but did exhibit not only with the Lake Artists but at the Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts and Royal Hibernian Academy during the period 1890-1934. A painting by Watson is in the collection of the National Trust.
