William Henry Milnes (1865-1957) was a painter, etcher and teacher, born in Wakefield, Yorkshire. Miles studied at Wakefield School of Art, then in Antwerp, and at the RCA. He later became Head of Walthamstow School of Art and then Coventry School of Art. He was elected to the Royal Society of British Artists in 1906, having already been elected an Associate of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers in 1899. He also showed at the Royal Academy and Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool and with the Essex Art Club. He was also a member of the Ipswich Art Club 1927-36 and the Norfolk & Norwich Art Circle in 1932.
