A colourful harbour scene showing the Royal Yacht Britannia moored in a harbour at sunset. The artist has signed to the lower left and the drawing has been presented in a simple oak frame with card mount. There is a label at the reverse with the artist's name and address and title of the drawing. On wove.

Some discolouration to the mount and surface scuffing to the frame.

Artist Biography

Innes was a late starter as an artist: he was first exhibited with a number of other servicemen during the Second World War (he was in the Royal Air Force), and only became a full-time artist from 1971, when he retired from his position as a shorthand typist. Nonetheless, Innes was prolific: exhibiting at the Royal Academy, New England Arts Club and the Royal Institute of Oil Painters during the 1960s and 1970s. Innes painted in watercolour and oil, but was happiest with pastels, and was a well-respected member of the Pastel Society. His main preoccupation was capturing the effect of light on water, and his favourite locations were along the south coast of England.
