Description

A charming rural scene in which children attempt to keep a fisherman's catch in a bucket, whilst the fisherman himself throws a net into the river on the bank behind. Several fish have escaped the children's grasp. One child is distracted by an eel in the grass, whilst another is too occupied with her doll to help. One girl manages to catch a flailing fish, though another escapes back to the river. The work is titled in the lower margin and is well presented in a gilt frame with floral ornamentation. Unsigned. On board.

Condition

Signs of wear consistent with age, including some discolouration and fine craquelure throughout. Inspection under UV light reveals areas of overpainting. Light wear to the frame. Overall, the artwork is in good condition.
