Artist Biography
William Austin was born in Chester in 1940. His family moved to Africa in 1946, Austin subsequently returned to the UK to study Architecture. He attended Cheltenham School of Art and won a painting scholarship tp the Berlin Academy in 1964. in 1967 he returned to London and obtained a degree in Modern European Studies. He then worked in Tokyo as an English teacher. He lived and painted in France, exhibiting frequently at various galleries including the New Art Centre, Brook Gallery, Whitechapel Gallery and the Hayward Gallery.
