Description

A lone traveller crosses a wooden bridge, dwarfed by the gushing waterfall and vast mountainous landscape that surrounds them. Willem Gerrit van Ulsen (1762-1830) painted numerous awe-inspiring landscapes with powerful moving water as their focus, evidently finding the sublime power of nature to be a lasting source of inspiration. Signed to the lower right. Well presented in a gilt frame. On paper.

Condition

Overall the condition is good. Some discolouration and foxing to the paper, as is typical for a picture of this age. Scuffs and small losses to the frame. Evidence of woodworm to the frame, which has been fully treated.

Size

44.5 x 56.5cm (17.5" x 22.2")
