Willem G. F. Jansen (1871-1949) - Early 20th Century Oil, Early Morning, Kilkeel

A very fine landscape study by the Danish artist Willem George Frederik Jansen (1871-1949). Here the artist has captured a tranquil spring morning with a young woman carrying two buckets of water through a woodland clearing. Completed in Jansen's distinctive impressionist manner, with visceral brushwork and a subdued colour palette. Areas of impasto provide a depth and perspective within the composition, bringing the scene to life.

Inscribed on the reverse 'Kilkeel, Co Down, William Frederick Jansen'.

Very well presented in a modern gilt effect frame with silver gilt slip. Signed to the lower left.

On canvas on stretchers.

Overall the condition is very good. With some minor surface dirt to the substrate. Inspection under UV light reveals no restoration to the canvas. Minor marks to the frame and slight widening of the joints. Areas of restoration to the frame at the upper left corner and lower edge. Small loss of molding to the upper centre frame.
