Welby Arthur Skinner - 1944 Oil Summer Shade
Description
A delicate and compelling post-impressionist river scene showing a sparkling river winding its way between banks lined with leafy trees. The artist has used an earthy palette with gentle highlights to add naturalism to the gestural painting. The artist has signed and dated to the lower right and the painting has been presented in a fine foliate gilt empire style frame. There are several inscriptions on the reverse of the board, including the artist's signature, a dedication of the painting as a gift and a note that indicates that this painting was exhibited at the RA Summer exhibition in 1945. On board.Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. There is a crease at the upper right quadrant and some splitting to the inner right corner of the frame.
