Walter (Wally) Robertson - Batch of 6 Original Mid 20th Century Graphite Drawing. On 6 separate sheets. 3 of the sheets have drawings on both sides. One is inscribed 'Jingles. W Robertson'. Unsigned. Some foxing and one sheet has a small tear lower left.

Walter (Wally) Robertson (1892-1983). Wally Robertson was born in Glasgow, Scotland and attended Glasgow School of Art. He started his drawing career as an architect's apprentice. He moved to London, where he found a job at the famous Fleetway House (Amalgamated Press), a publishing company, in 1914, drawing for comic titles Chips, Merry & Bright and Butterfly. After the 1914-1918 war (he served in the Sixth London Regiment) he returned to Art School (Heatherley's) and while there submitted work to magazines such as Passing Show and London Opinion. Robertson then returned to the AP and during the Golden Age of the 1930s his work appeared in every important funnies title including Funny Wonder, Jester, Crackers, Comic Cuts, Larks, Joker, Jolly and Jingles. In the 1950s he drew for the comics of Gerald Swan and titles issued by Martin & Reid.
