Artist Biography
Walter Duncan (1848-1932) was born in London, and was the son of Edward Duncan (1803-1882). A member of the Old Watercolour Society, Duncan exhibited regularly at the OWS and was elected an associate member in 1874. Like his father, he painted a large number of coastal scenes and landscapes, but he also tackled poetic and historical subjects. He exhibited at the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists, Fine Art Society, Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, Leicester Galleries, Manchester Academy of Fine Arts, Royal Society of British Artists, Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours, Royal Institute of Oil Painters, Royal Academy, New Gallery and at the Grosvenor Gallery.
