Artist Biography

John Burroughs Fowler (1860-1930) was a painter born in Walworth, London. He was the son of an auctioneer into whose business he first ventured. His surname is listed as Burroughs-Fowler (with a hyphen) by Johnson & Greutzner but government birth records and census list his surname as Fowler. Perhaps this was an affectation!

Details of his art education are not known but he did exhibit at the Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts, Royal Academy of Arts, Walker's Gallery and at the Royal Society of British Artists which elected him a member in 1912. He was a member of the London Sketch Club and lived variously in Chesham and London before his death in 1930.

Location

Irun, Gipuzkoa, Basque Country, Spain
