Painter in watercolours of marines, usually of fishing smacks, but also some Venice lagoons. This artist's work shows a striking resemblance to that of Frederick Aldridge, a popular marine artist of the time and it is possible that he was a pupil. It appears that W Stewart also painted under the names of J... Hill (q.v.) and F. Grayson (q.v.) both of whom have similar styles and subjects. The artist painted many small marine studies.
