W.P. - 1870 Watercolour Cavaliers and Roundheads
Description
A dynamic battle scene in a forest in the English Civil War (1642-1651). A Royalist (Cavalier) shoots a Parliamentarian (Roundhead) soldier while another foe approaches from behind, poised to strike with a sword. Presented in a wooden frame. Initialled and dated to the lower-right edge and inscribed indistinctly to the lower-left edge, only the word 'Royalist' is discernible. On laid affixed to card.Condition
There are two horizontal surface incisions extending the width of the substrate at the upper and lower edges. There is some mild discolouration, a small surface abrasion at the centre of the right edge, and a small puncture to the substrate a the lower-left edge, beneath the hooves of the grey horse. There are some small chips and dents to the edges of the frame.
