W.H. Wood - 1896 Oil Going To Sunday School
Description
A rustic, late 19th Century oil showing a grand church with domed spire. Outside, a horse drawn carriage has stopped and a young girl in Sunday school clothes has disembarked, headed for the church. The painting has been signed and dated in the lower right corner. The painting is presented in a late 19th Century frame with beautiful botanical strapwork and an unusual wood grain patterned cove. The frame boasts and internal gilt slip and the original crown glazing. On board.Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. There is craquelure across the surface, particularity in the lower third. There is some creasing and flaking to the paint at the upper right corner of the board. The frame has losses to three corners and a pin hole to the left hand side of the cover. The frame has general tarnishing to the gilt.
