Description

This accomplished Victorian watercolour study depicts two dead Finches in undergrowth. The artist captures their delicate bodies and vibrant colours in fine detail. Deceased birds were a common motif in Victorian still life art, a gentle nod towards the fleeting beauty of life, sympathy for the less fortunate and even sometimes thought to bring luck to people who received these paintings. Signed and dated to the lower right. Presented in a gilt frame with a white card mount. On paper.
