Collection Information

Most of the works are in charcoal or pencil, and have been in the same portfolio for a considerable period of time. There is scattered charcoal dust on the surfaces, and I have not cleaned them. Almost all of the dark marks can be simply wiped off with a putty rubber ? it takes me about 10 minutes to clean up one of these drawings. Some of these works are on very thin paper, and it has wrinkled and creased. Once again, this can be corrected but it is a bit more of a project, best left to a professional.
As I have gone through this portfolio, photographing and cataloguing it, I have become increasingly impressed with the quality of V H Moody's drawing. It's a mixed bag: Many of these works are studies for larger works, or early works. Sometimes there are multiple sketches on a single sheet. But I think every single work I have listed is worthwhile.

Victor Hume Moody 1896-1990 was an artist and teacher in oil, pencil and charcoal. He first studied at Battersea Polytechnic then at the Royal College of Art under William Rothenstein. He would become head master of Malvern School of Art from 1935-1962, being succeeded by his daughter, Catherine Olive Moody. An elected member of the RBSA he exhibited widely showing at the Royal Academy, the Royal Society of Portrait Painters and Royal Society of British Artists' and had a one man exhibition at the Goupil Gallery, in 1939.
Moody produced classical compositions and portraits. He had a strong interest in the techniques of painting used in the 17th century.
