Description
A fine and unusual etching by the listed artist Valerie Orchard, depicting a woodland valley with trees and ground foliage. Entitled 'silver birches', the artist has produced a distinct texture, creating an evocative scene. Inscribed '2/25' and signed by the artist beneath the plate in graphite. Dated '74, as shown. Signed and dated and inscribed. On wove.Condition
There is discolouration and surface dirt to the left and bottom edges, as well as some light mount burn around the print. Pin holes to the corners.

Artist Biography
Valerie Orchard was born in 1945 in Bushey, Hertfordshire. She studied Art at Harrow School of Arts from 1961 – 65, gaining an N.D.D. in Fine Arts and Printmaking. Her tutors included many Royal Academicians, including Ken Howard RA, Sonia Lawson RA, Charles Saunders RA, and Charles Bartlett, President of the Royal Watercolour Society, London. She taught art at Hinchingbrooke School, Huntingdon, from 1983 – 1998 and she continues to teach adult members of painting societies. Her work is collected and commissioned in the U.K. and around the world, including America, South Africa, Australia, Ireland, France and Germany, and also features in the Wynnberg Collection.
