A characterful study of an elderly Italian man carrying his wares, painted by the Milan born artist Valente. Painted with bold brushstrokes in saturated hues and excellently presented in a modern gilt effect frame. Provenance: A.E. Tunley & Son Ltd, Swindon (old receipt attached verso). Signed. On canvas on stretchers.

Condition

In fine condition. Inspection under UV light reveals no restoration.

Valente was born in Milan in 1897. His painting career did not start until he was middle aged. This painting is an excellent example of his speciality, character studies.
