Description

A charming Victorian study of flowers in a rural setting, presented in a Watts frame. Painted by the listed artist Thomas Worsey (1829-1875). This floral still life is highly typical of his oeuvre. Signed and dated. On canvas on stretchers.

Condition

There is a 3cm repair in the lower right corner of the canvas. Inspection under UV light reveals areas of retouching at the edges. There is craquelure typical for a picture of this age and loosening of the frame joints.

Artist Biography

Thomas Worsey (1829–1875) was an Birmingham-born artist best known for his floral still life paintings. His paintings are housed in various public galleries in the UK and his works have been sold at Christie's, Bonham's and Phillips auction houses. He was a member of the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists. He exhibited in London, mainly at the Royal Academy.
