Signs of wear visible to the heavy gilt effect frame. Various moulding losses and repairs noted on all rails. Stable cracking to the laurel and berry running pattern. Light rubbing to the internal slip.

Thomas Spinks (1847-1927) was a painter of landscapes in oils who was born in Derby and lived in Betws-y-Coed, Gwynedd, and London. He worked in a style reminiscent of B.W. Leader and W.H. Mander and exhibited at the Manchester Academy of Fine Arts, Royal Academy, and Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool. Examples of his work are in the collections of Atkinson Art Gallery, Derby Museum and Art Gallery, North Lincolnshire Museum, Rotherham Museums and Galleries, and Wycombe Museum.
