A charming early 20th Century watercolour showing a verdant riverside meadow in Summer with impressionist sheep grazing on the grass. The painting has been presented in a gilt frame with wash-line mount and there is a label at the reverse with the artist's name and dates. On wove.

Artist Biography

Thomas Simpson, was born at Great Russell Street, St Paul Covent Garden, London on 14 January 1847. In 1881, Thomas was a 34 year old figure paint, living at West House, Clapham Common, Streatham, London with his 66 year old widowed mother Jane, a house proprietor, and five sister siblings. Tom married at Wandsworth, London in 1889, Mary Katherine Russell. As a member of the Ipswich Art Club 1901-1915 and exhibited from Layer Breton in 1901, eight watercolours. He exhibited in subsequent years and in 1916 exhibited ten works. He also exhibited at Dudley Gallery; Glasgow Institute of Fine Art; Liverpool Walker Art Gallery; London Salon; New English Art Club, where he showed 'From Southwold Pier'; The Royal Academy; Royal Society of British Artists, where he showed 'Views at Walberswick', and London Walker's Gallery. He and his wife were still living at Layer Breton Lodge in 1911 and where he was a churchwarden of Layer Breton and painted a watercolour of the old church in 1909. He died in Italy at Villa Valentino, Bordighera on 18 August 1829.
