Description

A fine and substantial engraving by the artist Thomas Oldham Barlow RA RE (1824-1889), after a drawing by the English watercolourist Francis William Topham (1808-1877) entitled 'Making Nets'. The scene depicts a young woman with a net, beneath a rocky coastal cliff. A young gentleman in a hat dotes on her, posed to distract her from her work.

Well-presented in a Hogarth style frame, with gilt beading. There is a label to the reverse from 'Gordon Mills' Fine Art Trade Guild Dealer.

Unsigned dated and inscribed. On wove.

Condition

In good condition overall, with some minor surface discolouration and dirt. There is a crease across the upper right corner, and two areas of previous restoration with closed tears to the right edge.
