Artist Biography
Thomas Miles Richardson Jnr. (1813-1890) was born in Newcastle, the most gifted of the six artist sons of the painter Thomas Miles Richardson Snr. (1784-1848). Trained by his father, Richardson Jnr. left Newcastle in 1843 and moved to London when he was elected an associate of the Society of Painters in Water-Colours. He was made a full member in 1851, thereafter becoming a stalwart exhibitor with this institution, exhibiting a total of 702 works. His subject matter primarily consisted of mountainous landscapes, including views in the Lake District and the Scottish Highlands, as well as scenic panoramas of Italy and Switzerland.
