A rustic and impressionistic view of Clovelly harbour in Bideford, Devon. Given this was the artist's hometown, you can see the affection the had for this place in his way of painting the scene; warm golden light shafting across the confident architecture of the jetty and sea front buildings gives affectionate majesty to an, otherwise, rather quaint little harbour town. The artist has signed faintly to the lower left corner and the painting has been presented in a mid Century frame with swept rail and corners with floral and acanthus leaf detailing. There is a label at the reverse with the artist's name and brief biography. The artist has also faintly signed and inscribed their address in graphite to the reverse of the panel. On wood panel.
Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and surface dirtying. Inspection under UV light reveals some areas of restoration.

Thomas J Jones ARCA, specialised in figurative subjects and landscapes. the studied at the Royal College of Art and exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1901. the was born in Bideford, Devon and was Principal of the Tunbridge Wells School of Arts and Crafts. the also taught at the Wedgwood Memorial Institute in 1907.
