Theodore Iriving Dalgleish (1855-1941) - 1889 Etching Hay Loading
Description
A fine late 19th Century etching, showing an industrious scene of workers loading hay from a hay cart onto a boat to cross a small river and feed the cattle in the opposite meadow. The artist has signed to the lower right in graphite and the publisher's details and date have been inscribed in plate at the lower edge. On wove laid to card.Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. There is a tear to the upper right edge of the paper and image. Original plate lines intact.

Artist Biography
Painter and engraver, born in Coventry, he studied Slade School, under Alphonse Legros and Edward Poynter. Mainly remembered as an etcher he was elected RE in 1881 and also the Nottingham Society of Artists in 1886. He showed there and at the RA RBA, Nottingham Castle Museum and the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool. Later in life he relocated to Grasse in the south of France. His work is included in the permanent collection of the British Museum. A two-colour etching by Dalgleish was reproduced in Drawing & Design, April 1922.
