A fine original 1835 coastal landscape by the artist T. Johnson, entitled 'The Beach at Boulogne, with the Coast of England near France in the Distance'. The scene depicts two fisherwomen to the lower left with wicker baskets and a large net. Other figures can be seen at the shore, with vessels on the channel in the distance. The light on the setting is reminiscent of the warm glow employed by other artists of the period, including J.M.W. Turner.
Well-presented in a wide linen and gilt wood frame, as shown. Signed indistinctly to the lower left 'T*** Johnson' and dated 1835. Inscribed with the title to the reverse. Also, there is an original c.1835 label from Robertson and Miller.
