A ship portrait of the British barque Sindia. She was built in 1887 by Harland and Wolff of Belfast, Ireland, the same company that later built the Titanic. The Sindia was one of the last commercial sailing ships prior to the predominance of steam-powered ocean travel. In 1901, travelling from Kobe, Japan, to New York City, she ran aground and sank off Ocean City, New Jersey. Parts of the ship remained visible to beachgoers as late as the 1980s. Presented in a cream mount and a wooden frame with ornate detailing to the inner edge. Signed and dated to the lower-right corner. On watercolour paper.
Condition
There is some foxing and discolouration. There are some small marks to the frame.
