A meticulously detailed etching by Scottish printmaker Susan Fletcher Crawford (1863-1918). The scene depicts the suspension bridge in Montrose, on the east coast of Scotland, which was demolished and replaced in 1929. Signed both within the plate and in graphite to the lower right. Signs of wear consistent with age. Discolouration to the paper. Several tears and holes to the paper along the lower edge and upper left, some of which have been restored. Losses around the edges of the page.

Artist Biography
Susan Fletcher Crawford (1863-1918) was a Scottish artist and printmaker, typically of Scottish architectural subjects. She was born in Glasgow, and studied at the Glasgow School of Art between 1881 and 1888. She would later teach etching at the Glasgow School of Art between 1894 and 1917, and taught a number of artists who would become associated with the Etching Revival. In 1893 she became a member of the Glasgow Society of Lady Artists, and a year later she was elected an Associate of the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers. She exhibited widely, including with the Glasgow Society of Lady Artists, Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts, Royal Scottish Academy, Royal Society of Painter-Etchers, and Society of Women Artists. Her work is in the collections of the Glasgow Museums, National Galleries of Scotland, British Museum, and New York Public Library.
