Description

Leuchars - Original 19th Century Antiques. One of the finest jewellery boxes you will ever find. Bearing the original engraving plaque from Leuchars and Sons, Makers to the Queen, 38 Piccadilly. This box can be dated as being made between 1837-1841. Leuchars was sold to Asprey's in 1888, they made the finest boxes of their day. This superb example is rosewood with brass inlays The brass plaque on the top is not engraved. The lock is, of course, Bramah. The interior is finely fitted with green leather and velvet tray and compartments. The top opens to reveal a letter holder, and behind that is a recess to hold a mirror (now lost but easily replaced). Everything about this box is as good as it could possibly be but sadly, we do not have a key. No expense was spared in making this box - even the back has very finely figured rosewood veneers. 31 x 23 x 14 cm.
