A unique early 19th-century watercolour study of a young man. He carries a large walking stick and wears bright blue pantaloons. His hometown of 'Oberhasli' is inscribed to the lower edge. Well presented in a simple gilt effect frame. Unsigned On paper.Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. Some marks and scratches to the frame.

Artist Biography
David Alois Schmid was a Swiss artist known for his costume drawings. Schmid acquired his skills as a draftsman in Lucerne and then later under the artistic influence of Johann Heinrich Bleuler in Feuerthalen. His brothers, Franz Schmid (1796-1851) and Martin Schmid (1786-1842) were also artistically active.
He produced many engravings and sold numerous gouaches and drawings to wealthy tourists. Schmid chose particularly picturesque locations and was coveted for his panoramic landscapes and costume designs.
