Sir David Muirhead Bone (1876-1953) - 1917 Lithograph Hospital Ship at Night
Description
A striking lithograph depicting a man reading by lamplight on a hospital ship The Orderly while patients rest in bunks behind him. Inscription to the reverse reads: The drawing was made on one of the small and less perfectly equipped hospital ships which have occasionally had to be called in the service during times of hard fighting. Like most nightsisters in hospitals, an R. A. M. C. orderly on night duty usually ties himself #, as it were, with an elastic string, to a piece of literature, so that he can at once be drawn away from it by the needs of any of his patients, but springs back to his reading as soon as the pull is relaxed.' Unsigned. Presented in a simple wooden frame. On paper.Condition
