Artist Biography
Simon Goldberg was a painter and printmaker, born Solomon Goldberg in London. He studied at St. Martin's School of Art and then RCA, 1937-40. He also worked as Sydney Goldberg until 1950 when he adopted Simon Goldberg as his working name. Following war service, he taught lithography and various forms of printmaking at Hull College of Art, 1947-83, when he retired. A founder member in the early 1960s of the Avenues Group, he exhibited his work at the RA, LG and with the Society of Yorkshire Artists. He is represented in V&A, Leeds City Art Gallery and Ferens Art Gallery, Hull. Goldberg was elected a member of the Senefelder Club in 1949, and examples of his work are in the collections of Derby Museum and Art Gallery, Ferens Art Gallery, Hull University Art Collection, South London Art Gallery and the V&A.
