Sidney Tushingham (1884–1968) - Early 20th Century Etching Child In A Sleigh
Description
A charming and finely detailed dry point etched study of a child in Winter attire, holding a doll, in a pull along sleigh. The artist has rendered the face in high detail and left the rest of the composition, loose and unfinished.
The artist has monogrammed in plate and signed in pencil to the lower right of the plate line. The original plate lines are in tact. The etching has been presented in a black, contemporary frame with glazing and a white mount.

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. There are several light horizontal images across the middle of the image. The frame is in fine condition.

Artist Biography
Sidney Tushingham (1884–1968) was a painter and etcher who specializes in rustic scenes of villages and small town life.
He was born in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, England, where he started his artistic career as a china painter. He attended Burslem School of Art and progressed to the Royal College of Art. Tushingham married Ella Maria Westlake at St John, Walham Green on 22 December 1913. He worked as a vase painter at Royal Doulton in 1922 as he established his career as a society painter. He also became known for his etchings of pre-war Britain, Italy and Spain, and was a member of the Society of Graphic Art, where he exhibited in 1921.
He died in Haywards Heath, West Sussex in 1968.
