A charming watercolour painting with graphite details by the artist Sidney Mary Duigan, depicting a street scene in the city of Ely. Signed to the lower left-hand corner. There is a label on the reverse inscribed with the artist's name and title. Presented in a wash line card mount and in a textured, gilt-effect frame, as shown. On watercolour paper.Condition
The condition includes some discolouration, light foxing and a 8 cm tear to the lower right-hand margin. Light marks and discolouration to the mount. Some scuffs and small areas of surface loss to the frame.

Artist Biography
Painter and wood carver born in Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, the daughter of a medical practitioner. She was active as a painter and woodcarver c.1915, and at least until the early 1930's. A photograph of an oak cross designed by C.E. Mallows and carved by Duigan for St. James Church in Biddenham, Bedford, is illustrated in Studio Magazine, September 1922. Duigan exhibited at the International Society of Sculptors, Painters & Gravers, the Ridley Art Club, and the Society of Women Artists in London. Johnson & Greutzner have incorrectly spelt her first name as Sydney. All Government records indicate it as Sidney.
