Born 1970 at Udaipur, Shahid Parvez completed his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Drawing and Painting from ML Sukhadia University in the city followed by an artists’ residency at Cardiff under a Rajasthan Wales Arts fellowship. Working in printmaking, etching, silk screen, drawing and painting Shahid’s art offers an interesting perspective on relationship between man and animal or life and nature where human beings, elephants, tigers and monkeys all seem to live happily together. With their child art like look and kaleidoscopic colors, his detailed renderings make multidimensional narratives evocative of Indian folk art and miniature traditions with a contemporary feel and content. Humour is integral to his spontaneous and surreal creations that feature folk motifs and vibrant characters in incongruous juxtapositions. Shahid who also runs an art gallery in Udaipur continues to work diligently on his own work and is a winner of several honours including the All India Art Biennale and State LKA awards. He has had shows in various Indian metros as well as exhibitions in Europe- UK, France and America besides Australia. The artist lives and works out of Udaipur in Rajasthan.
