A fine engraving by French artist Sebastien le Clerc (1637-1714) after Charles Le Brun (1619-1690). The scene is a engraving interpretation of one of Le Brun's tapestries depicting the successes of Louis XIV. In the Louis XIV stands to the center right watching knight being rolled on by his wounded horse. Inscriptions to the lower border reads in French 'Siege of Douay in the year 1667. Where Roy Louis 14 was in the trench, a cannon shot fired from the town killed the horse of a bodyguard near the person of his Majesty'. Presented in a Hogarth style frame. On paper.
Condition
There is light foxing and discolouration to the paper. There are some small losses to the frame.
