Description

A very fine architectural watercolour in the manner of John Varley (1778-1842), looking South along Cheyne Walk on the Thames in Chelsea, London. The Chelsea Old Church can be seen in the distance, before the cupola was removed in 1815. The artist has carefully used tones in order to build depth, with some body colour on the figures. Well-presented in a washline mount with thin oak frame, as shown. Unsigned dated and inscribed. On wove.

Condition

In fine condition overall for a picture of this age. There is some surface dirt to the mount, and some slight scuffing to the frame.
