Description

A very fine watercolour with gouache depicting the meeting of the Bishops of the Upper House by Samuel Begg. Convocation is the ancient legislative assembly for the province of Canterbury, which has met as two houses, the upper house of bishops, presided over by the archbishop of Canterbury, and the lower house of clergy.

Wonderfully presented in a large washline mount with gilt detail and inscription.

Signed. On wove.

Condition

Overall the condition is very good for a picture of this age, with some minor discolouration. Very minor surface marks and some scuffing to the mount. Noticeably at the outer edges and corners.
