An expressive drawing by the Russian artist Samouil Nevelshtein, depicting a portrait of a young pioneer camp leader. The Young Pioneer camps of the Soviet Union were a place where children used to spend their summer and winter holidays. Signed and dated to the lower right-hand corner. Inscribed in Cyrillic to the lower margin and to the reverse. On wove.Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration, minor marks, slight surface smudging and minor puncture holes to the corners and margins.

Artist Biography
Samouil Grigorievich Nevelshtein (1903-1983) lived and worked in Leningrad, known today as St. Petersburg. Nevelshtein exhibited at the All-Union art exhibitions of 1947 and 1955, as well as the exhibition “The Soviet Russia” (Moscow, 1960). Nevelshtein's works have been exhibited in a few private collections in Russia and internationally.
