Artist Biography
Roy Walker was a painter, printmaker, and Constructivist born in Kent. Walker studied at Gravesend School of Art from 1951 to 1952, Regent Street Polytechnic, London from 1952 to 1954, and Central School of Arts & Crafts, London from 1956 to 1960. After a period of time in Essex, he moved to St. Ives in 1967, where he lived and worked for the rest of his life. He was elected a member of the Penwith Society of Arts in 1973 and acted as Chairman in 1979. He was also elected a member of the Newlyn Society of Artists in 1975 and showed with the Plymouth Society of Artists. He lectured part-time on etching and printmaking at Plymouth College of Art and was also a visiting lecturer at Falmouth College of Art. He exhibited in a group show at Marlborough Fine Art, London, and at the Eye Gallery, Bristol. His solo shows included exhibitions at Camel Gallery in Wadebridge in 1973, Annexe Gallery, Truro in 1991, and in Holland. His work was also shown posthumously at Belgrave Gallery in 2003. Walker was also a member of RE, and his work is in the collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum, Connecticut College, USA, and the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers.
