Roy Fairchild Woodard painter and printmaker, born in Surrey. After leaving school at sixteen to train as a technical illustrator, he took a degree in graphic design after setting up his own studio. He soon found it was difficult to make a living from his own work and supported himself and his family for several years by producing, under the name of Woodard, illustrations for record sleeves, advertisements and books, as well as decorative silk-screens and lithographs. He has achieved considerable popularity with his portfolios of pastel coloured figurative prints. Experimenting with different techniques he developed new methods of achieving effects on silk-screen. He eventually achieved sufficient financial security to enable him to give up commercial illustrations and return to full-time painting and printmaking which he executes under his family name. He exhibited at Cheltenham's Montpelier Gallery, 1994.
