Description

An interesting watercolour study depicting the return of British prime Minister William Gladstone to office in 1880. Gladstone's second administration - both as Prime Minister and again as Chancellor of the Exchequer until 1882 - lasted from June 1880 to June 1885. Here the artist has captured the moment locals find out that he is returning to power outside the local pub. Finished with body colour. Well presented in a simple wood frame. Signed with initials and dated. On paper.

Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and minor foxing. Small scuffs and marks to the frame.
