A very fine signed oil painting by listed Scottish artist Robert Russell MacNee (1866-1952), which depicts chickens outside a rural thatched cottage. Signed in the lower left and presented in a white stained wooden frame with fabric slip. Provenance: Fred Keech Ltd Fine Art Gallery, Taunton. On canvas on stretchers.Condition
In fine condition. Inspection under UV light reveals no sign of restoration.

Artist Biography
Robert Russell MacNee (1880-1952) was a landscape and genre artist born in Milngavie, Scotland. He studied at Glasgow School of Art and is best known for his sunny farmyard and cottage scenes. The presence of chickens in particular identifies a lot of his paintings. His style is impressionistic and he is able to create a quality of light through a subtle palette and light brushwork that imbues his paintings an idyllic charm. MacNee is Royal Academy exhibited and he also exhibited at the Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts, the Royal Scottish Academy and in Paris.
