The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and light foxing. With some residue at upper edge of paper and two small 1cm tears.

Painter, etcher and writer he was educated at Rugby. Born in Solihull, Chattock worked and lived in the Birmingham area most of his life. He exhibited regularly at the FAS, RBSA, RE, RA and at the New Society of Painters in Water Colours. Elected RE in 1881, his etchings, particularly those of the Black Country, were very popular. He was elected RBSA in 1867 and he wrote books on etching and The Black Country and Wensleydale.
