A wonderful mid to late 19th century watercolour of the HMS Edgar. A 74 gun ship of the Royal Navy, that saw service in the American Revolutionary, French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars. Launched in 1779, she fought in the battles of Cape St Vincent and Copenhagen, two of the major naval engagements of the wars.
Wonderfully detailed with graphite detail and presented in a double card mount. With gilt frame. An original inscription has been cut out and attached to the reverse of the new frame.
Signed. On watercolour paper.Overall the condition is very good for a picture of this age. With minor signs of discolouration and very minor signs of foxing.
