Description

Four lino prints illustration the story of 'Manon Lescaut', a 18th century novel by French author Antoine François Prévost. Detailing the adventures of two lovers. The four prints are entitled 'Manon's arrival at the inn', 'The Murder of the servant in the prison', 'Des Syrinx confined to his room', and 'Manon in Chains'. Presented in a four window card mount. Unsigned. On wove.

Condition

Areas of discolouration and mount burn to the outer edges of the mount. The prints are in fine condition.

Collection Information

We acquired a collection of works on paper by well listed British artist, Richard Ian Bentham Walker, direct from the artist's estate. The artworks have a wonderfully playful quality where Walker has applied the paint with large, gestural brushstrokes. The collection includes watercolour landscapes, portraits and still lifes including On The Isle Of Herm and the Channel Islands. Many of the artworks have been signed by the artist.

Artist Biography

Croydon born painter of portraits, landscapes and imaginative subjects in oils and a wide range of media. Walker is also a printmaker and illustrator who as a young man trained at Croydon School of Art, 1945-48 and at the Slade School, 1949 under William Coldstream and Alan Gwynne Jones. He has exhibited at the RA, RP, RBA, ROI, Paris Salon, Croydon Art Society and UA the last of which elected him a member. Hill exhibited in Paris and Germany and has held a solo exhibition at the Alpine Gallery, London in 1981. His work is in the collection of Middlesbrough Council, the Museum of London and the Royal College of Music.
