Richard Downer has been drawing and painting for over 60 years. Trained at Leeds College of Art, he worked in advertising as an art director and in 1966 established Richard Downer Limited working as a design consultant and illustrator for over 40 years. Richard's work has been seen by millions: he designed the BT telephone directories throughout the UK and illustrated them between 1967-1985. More recently, working mainly in oils, he has been exploring the lifespan of trees and their regeneration into the fabric of life. He was a Fellow of the Society of Industrial Artists and Designers and Fellow and past President of the Society of Typographic Designers. He continues to draw and paint at his studio Inkerman Press in North London.
