Artist Biography

Richard Golding Constable was a painter born in Lewes, Sussex the great-great grandson of John Constable. Educated at Marlborough College, Millfield School and at Cambridge, he followed his father into the military and served in the Korean War as a Lieutenant in the Royal Artillery.

Raised on a Devonshire farm he became an accomplished naturalist and in 1945 he won an art scholarship to Marlborough College. He later taught art for many years at Saxmundham in Suffolk. Constable held solo exhibitions in East Anglia and in London and was a member of the Ipswich Art Club. He work is largely composed of gouache mixed occasionally with watercolour.
