An etching depicting the historic house of John Knox (c.1514-1572) in Edinburgh. Knox was a Scottish minister, theologian, and writer who was a leader of the country's Reformation. He was the founder of the Presbyterian Church of Scotland. Inscribed with the location to the lower-left edge and signed to the lower-right edge. On wove.

Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and mild foxing. Overall in good condition.

Artist Biography

Reginald Green (1884-1971) was an artist, etcher, and teacher born in Yarmouth, Norfolk. Details of his art education are as yet unknown but the 1911 census records Green living in Wimbledon and working as an 'elementary school teacher'. He is known to have exhibited at the Brook Street Art Gallery, Connell and Sons, Royal Academy of Arts, Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers, Redfern Gallery, Royal Hibernian Academy, and the Walker Art Gallery. The Royal West of England Academy, who elected him a member in 1947, has examples of his work in their collection. His death was recorded in Maidenhead.
